PROG51
is an event specially conceived by longtime Tulsa DJ Badger
for the old-school Tulsa-area alternative music fans who remember
KTOW Progressive Radio, Mohawk Music,
and the Beat Club dance club.
There is NO
COVER CHARGE for this event, and LOT NO. 6 art
bar will be smokefree for the month of June, including during
PROG51.
All tracks
played at this event will be selections originally played on KTOW
Progressive Radio and/or at Beat Club, most of which could have
been purchased at Mohawk Music back in the day. There will
be no songs played that are any more recent than early 1991 (when
KTOW left the FM airwaves), and the music will be kept at a comfortable
level to encourage conversation.
You can expect
music stretching from the well-known to the obscure, with selections
ranging from the works of Depeche Mode to Camper Van Beethoven,
from the Smiths to Lenny Kravitz, from the Cure to Urban Dance
Squad, from REM to Blue Clocks Green, from New Order to Midnight
Oil, from Front 242 to Redd Kross, from Nitzer Ebb to Black Uhuru,
from Siouxsie and the Banshees to Bongos, Bass and Bob.
All tracks
will be played from CDs and genuine vinyl records - NOT
from a laptop.
It will be
a night absolutely packed with musical memories.
PROG51
is a unique annual event, aimed specifically at fans of Tulsa's
classic alternative music culture. Although you can feel
free to dance if you'd like, PROG51 is not
presented as a "dance party." It's a social gathering
- a place to come share our stories and revisit our experiences
from back in the day.
We hope to
see plenty of you there!
