RIP
JMJ
(Rest
in Peace, Jam Master Jay)
My
quest for the shirt continues...
Last
update: March 29, 2003.
Okay,
this is a special page I've made regarding my search for RIP JMJ shirts.
The
short version goes like this:
I
HAVE NOT FOUND ONE YET. :(
Here's
the long version:
For
those who have followed this, it all started back on December 12th,
2002, when, in Journal Entry 13,
I stated that I was looking for an RIP JMJ shirt like the performers
wore in the tribute performance in honour of legendary Run-DMC turntablist
Jam Master Jay at the end of the Billboard music awards.
The
shirts they were wearing were way cool... They were black shirts
with "RIP JMJ" emblazoned in white, with a swank black-and-white
picture of Jam Master Jay. Having been a Run-DMC fan for a verrrry
long time, I decided to hop online and search for them. To my
surprise, they were not for sale anywhere. At least, I couldn't
find them. There were no retailers online who carried them, and
I couldn't even find a fan site or an official Run-DMC site who sold
them.
So,
I put up the aforementioned Journal Entry
13, describing the situation and asking if anyone knew where I could
obtain an RIP JMJ shirt like the ones in the tribute jam. When
I did so, apparently my site started showing up when others were doing
searches for the shirt, and I started getting a truckload of mail asking
me where people could find the shirt. I got more e-mail about
Run-DMC shirts that I'd ever gotten for anything else on my site, and
I still had no idea where to find 'em.
In
fairness, there was an RIP JMJ shirt available on the Web for
a while, but unfortunately it was not the shirt I was looking
for. I had actually seen it before, but I want to thank a couple
of fellows named Brian Chew and
Ben Shaps (aka DJ Flava) who also took the time to e-mail and
let me know about it a while back. (You guys rock! Thank you so
much!) Unfortunately, it was not an official shirt and it didn't
have a picture of Jam Master Jay; just the letters "RIP JMJ"
in the bold Run-DMC-like font. It still looked pretty cool, though.
The site offering it, surrendermartha.com,
said that they were sending some of the proceeds to JMJ's childrens
fund, which was admirable. However, unfortunately, I tried going
out there more recently (03-29-2003) to verify that they still had the
RIP JMJ T-Shirts, and they did not. They only had a bunch of tacky-looking
anti-war shirts, and even in their "View All Shirts" section,
RIP JMJ was no longer around. *sigh.*
I've
also heard that occasionally RIP JMJ shirts are going on eBay
for quite a chunk of cash. Obviously, I won't be able to post
an update here to let you know every auction that I see with an RIP
JMJ shirt, but you can check there off and on to see what you can find.
Although I really want one of those shirts, I'm not planning on selling
any organs to pay for one, so if one is too expensive, I'm going to
pass. :)
Anyway,
here's the deal. I enjoy getting e-mail from people who dig my
site, or my music, or whatever. I even like chatting about things
like this shirt. However, from the time of this writing (03-29-2003)
forward, this page will be the only place to find updates on my RIP
JMJ shirt search. I don't want to be a weenis about it, but people
who e-mail me strictly to ask where they find an RIP JMJ shirt
will either get no response at all, or (more likely) just a response
with a link to this page and that's it. For the latest status
reports, just bookmark this page or add it to your favourites.
If I find the shirt I'm looking for, I will update this page, and if
the same place can sell shirts to all of you, I will post the site at
which you can get them. I promise. Thanks to everyone for
your understanding.
Anyway,
I want to close this by wishing much love and respect to Jam Master
Jay, stating my hope that justice is someday rendered upon the one(s)
who murdered him, and asking that we all keep JMJ's family and other
loved ones in our thoughts and prayers, so that hopefully they can obtain
some peace and closure. Thanks very much.
