OLSENPARTY.COM up and running!
Okay,
do any of you yahoos remember me mentioning a "Mary Kate + Ashley
Turn 18" party in my last Journal entry? (If you don't, I'd
suggest you click here
for more details before continuing with this entry...)
Well,
the official site for the event is now up and running:
(Click it! Go on; you know you want to.)
I'm
really pleased with how the site turned out. Seriously thrilled,
actually. Please go check it out if you haven't done so yet.
It also includes a map for those who have no clue how to get to the
Gypsy Coffee House.
The
response to this thing has been really successful so far! Friends
and fans have been telling me me how excited they are and how they're
planning on bringing more people and how this should be really awesome...
Except
one person.
One
particular younger patron and poetry artist at the Gypsy Coffee House
actually caught me during break at the Gypsy open mic night last Tuesday
and asked how old I was. (She guessed 6 years young - I was flattered.)
She
then asked if I thought it was wrong to be having a party for these
girls turning 18 who could practically be my daughter (I'm paraphrasing
here), and asked if I thought it was "encouraging..."
(I didn't interrupt her, but she didn't go say what she thought it was
encouraging, so I'm presuming she meant something horrible.)
I
didn't get angry or anything; I just said, "No... I have
a sense of humour," and then I walked away. I had
formulated an extended version of the response which would have added,
"...I'd recommend that you go out and buy one," but
I didn't go with that.
I'll
admit I was a little miffed at first, but as time went on, I was cool
with it. Here's why:
- She was entitled to her opinion.
- She addressed it respectfully.
- She actually brought up a really good
point.
I've
been joking about the Olsen Twins turning 18 for a good long while now.
I've also been planning this party for a good long time and I'm not
about to stop it. However, the basis of it is, at its core, a
big goofy joke.
So,
that being said, I feel that I should state the following:
With
my jokes and commentary about the Olsen Twins, this party, or anything
else in the world, I do not mean to imply, by any means,
that I genuinely encourage or condone pedophilia or child sexual abuse.
Pedophilia is one of the most disgusting and disturbing problems that
exist in today's society, and, when we put all the joking aside, I
find it simply aborrhent.
I've
made jokes about dead babies and the Space Shuttle Challenger in the
past, too, but that didn't mean that I was really happy that the Challenger
blew up, or that I really want any babies to die. A sick joke
is a sick joke, and I'm taking the Olsen joke to the extreme - the pinnacle
of Olsenjokedness - at this party. If one is not receptive to
the joke or does not understand the concept of the joke or humour in
general, then one is welcome to avoid attend this event, and perhaps
stay at home watching reruns of Matlock.
I
don't feel the need to say anything further about the humour matter
at this time.
However,
the party is going to be amazing, and everyone should still tell their
friends to attend. We're going to have some fun. :)
Thanks
very much to everyone who has supported my work thus far!
