3316
is no more. Chef Guy rocks on. Another sad anniversary.
MASSIVE
WICKED COOL JOURNAL ENTRY COMING, THREE ENTRIES FROM NOW. STAY
TUNED.
We
buried mom a year ago today. It doesn't feel like an entire year
has passed, but indeed it has.
I
was recently informed that 3316, the restaurant at which I DJed a set
of gigs in January, was no longer in business. I am only happy
this happened insofar as one particular manager is concerned.
One of them had no business being in the restaurant industry, and her
behaviour the last night I was there was, quite frankly, embarrassing.
I still plan on giving more details here later. The atmosphere
at 3316 was beautiful, and the food, prepared by their amazing head
chef Guy, was exquisite. Were it not for that one manager, I would
lament 3316's passing. Thanks to that one manager, I don't have
to.
During
the same conversation about 3316, I was told that Guy had moved on...
and was now preparing food over at a place called Oliver's Twist, on
the southeast corner of 35th and Peoria. So, a couple of nights
ago, Lanna and I headed over to Oliver's Twist to try it out.
The
experience was wonderful. We had two appetizers: deep-fried
black olives stuffed with asiago cheese (yummmmmm), and vegetable tempura
with a really good sweet sauce. It was amazing. We followed
this with two entrees: A meatloaf dish for Lanna which had been
highly recommended by a friend of ours, and a polenta dish specially
made for me that was not on the menu because (bummer!) they had zero
vegetarian entrees on the menu.
The
food was phenomenal - incredibly rich and filling. The main downside
(aside from that whole vegetarian thing) is that it was quite pricy
- definitely not something we could do all the time, but it was terrific.
Although
Guy was working that night, we didn't get to see him. The restaurant
was absolutely packed (a situation I rarely saw at 3316) and he understandably
had his hands full in the kitchen, so that was no problem. I'm
just thrilled that he is now working at such an upscale establishment.
He's the most talented chef I know.
So,
if you are looking for a really good, elegant place for dinner and you
don't mind dropping a little extra cash for a special evening, check
out Oliver's Twist. It is really a spectacular place.
Incidentally...
after dinner, I made a point to drive by the old 3316 site to see if
anything else was already set up in its place. Sure enough, it
was already occupied by another restaurant. Boo hoo. :)
More
later!
