"The
Great Gypsy Chillout 2" + Utopia "Retro Set" - recaps
+ setlists.
Current Mood: Optimistic but fatigued.
Current Scent: Ultraviolet Man by Paco Rabanne.
Hello,
everyone.
Well,
as usual, I'm more than a bit behind on the status updates. Overall,
things are going pretty well here. I have so much going on...
but I keep telling myself I need to add more to the site. Hopefully
soon. Hopefully.
October
was a busy month for me! For the first time in over four years,
I had two gigs, back-to-back, within the course of two weeks.
Granted,
compared to my commerical mobile DJing days back in the 1990s, when
I would sometimes perform on three nights in a row, this was
not too bad. Of course, that was back in the days before having
a wife and kids...
Anyway,
I ended up doing a gig on October 19th, followed by a gig on October
26th. On the 19th was the heavily-publicized Great
Gypsy Chillout 2, and on the 26th was a much-less-publicized retro
set at Club Utopia, which had only been arranged around a couple of
weeks before!
So,
here's the rundown for each night:

GREAT GYPSY CHILLOUT 2.

As
many of you know, I had been looking forward to the Great Gypsy Chillout
2 for months. I wanted to present a set very similar to the original
2010 Great Gypsy
Chillout, but with enough major differences and surprises thrown
in that nobody could say it was the exact same thing.
After
my standard intro, "Psalm," I headed straight into one of
my favourite tracks by Lendi Vexer, a trip-hop duo from Argentina.
"The Process of Disillusion" set the mood, with an intensely
plaintive groove extremely reminiscent of trip-hop masters Portishead.
If you haven't experienced Lendi Vexer's music, I highly recommend that
you check it out.
The
rest of the gig went extremely well; it was successful not only for
me, but also for the Gypsy.

SET AT UTOPIA.

The
Utopia gig was, like I mentioned earlier, planned very shortly before
it happened - maybe two weeks or so. There wasn't much publicity
done for the gig, but I was very geeked about it, because I don't often
get to do 80s/90s nights these days, and they're some of my favourite
gigs.
Overall,
it went quite well. Even though the performance wasn't all that
long, I had fun and I'm glad that I was able to perform there.
Plus, we got the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of Pennsy "Little
Miss 80s" Richardson, and that was pretty cool, too.
Anyway...
I have much more to tell you, and I'll do so soon. Thanks as always
for the support!
