Twenty years ago, I got cut open on Halloween.
Current Mood: A little nostalgic,
a little pensive, but mainly... just plain tired.
Current Scent: Pi by Givenchy.
Hello,
and happy Halloween, everybody.
Just
a quick thank you to someone who will probably never see it...
Twenty
years ago today, on Halloween 1999, I got sliced open, and it saved
my life.
Earlier
that day, I was in agonizing pain. I was the "on-call"
for my team that weekend at my at-that-time day job, which meant that
that day (Sunday), I was having to essentially triage major IT issues,
and that day I was trying to coordinate different teams to help assist
with an issue we had with rate management data. My laptop was
set up at my kitchen table, and I would work to send out the necessary
information, then crawl to the bathroom to vomit, then crawl
back to the kitchen table to coordinate more efforts to fix the issue.
I
thought it was just a really, really bad stomach bug. My mom encouraged
me to go to urgent care, my at-the-time girlfriend drove me there, and
I quickly found out that I had appendicitis.
Dr.
Matt Bosquez showed up a bit later; I got knocked out, he cut me open,
and he took out the inflamed appendix before it burst.
Without
his help, I would have died that day.
Thank
you, Dr. Bosquez.
