DJ Badger: The News and the Journal

Entry One Hundred Sixty-Four.
Tuesday, 2013.01.15, 10:02 AM CST.

Hoping to have some fun in 2013!
Current Mood:  Nostalgic (gasp!) but very open to the future.
Current Scent:  L'eau D'Issey by Issey Miyake.

It's been a decent morning.  I'm sitting here drinking some cranberry pomegranate tea, and I've just gulped down my breakfast of a chocolate-almond-coconut Mojo bar.  (Usually I eat a bit healthier... maybe I'll have some eggs or something in a bit.)  In another window on my computer, I am having an online discussion with Sanchez, one of the two most influential DJs of my life (Dave French being the other).  My ten-month-old son Atticus is relaxing after bouncing in his bouncy seat for a while.

Overall... it's a fairly normal morning.

This is going to be a big year.  I know that always have a lot of "big plans" for events and whatnot, but I'll admit that a lot of them have never come to fruition.

I will make this year different, for two reasons:

First:  February will bring the 25TH ANNIVERSARY of my introduction to the DJ industry way back in 1988.  That's hitting pretty hard, both in a good way and a bit more melancholy way.

Second:  Certain concepts, such as my own mortality, are starting to become clearer to me.  Life doesn't go on forever, and I still have a lot more that I want to do before my end, musically speaking and otherwise.

The following has been ringing in my head:  "If I keep trying to wait for 'the perfect time,' the perfect time will never come."

This year, I am planning at least three special events.  I can't give many details, except to say that the first one will be a small retro gathering, and it will probably happen within two months.

Also, I'm about to get a lot more open about hiring myself out for private parties again.  The final EKG Pro Mobile Music gig was back in late 2002; with very few exceptions, I have stayed away from "commercial" mobile gigs for a decade, concentrating on club/venue events, production, and remixing.  I am ready to go back to hiring myself out for events - from giant wedding receptions down to simple house parties.

I want to have fun with DJing again - and I want to share my love of dance music with people.  It's still one of my greatest passions.

If you haven't "liked" my Facebook page, please do so, and if you really like my work, please tell your friends about it as well.  I post lots of quick updates there, and it's the best way to keep in touch with me.

More soon!
