Over
the last couple of decades, I've developed somewhat of a reputation
as a DJ: The guy that still mixes dance music from vinyl
records. The obsessive remix collector. The retro
aficionado. The Depeche Mode freak.
Chillout gigs aren't
exactly what I'm "known for," but I love downtempo
music.
Don't get me wrong:
I'm still a huge fan of uptempo dance tracks, but
there's just something about a well-produced trip-hop song
or a calming ambient track that really "gets" me.
Ever since I heard
Portishead's Dummy, the downtempo subspectrum of
music has become one of my lesser-known passions.
At the Chillout
events, I don't concentrate a lot on fancy mixing tricks.
In fact, I handle the chillout performances a lot like I would
if I were just performing a laid-back set among friends at
a house party: Low-intensity and laid-back.
This is my opportunity
to share some tracks that you've very likely never experienced
before... and to play a genre that I truly enjoy. The
Great Gypsy Chillout 2 is truly a labour of love to me, and
I look forward to seeing lots of you there!
